Living and working in Erkner: the town on Berlin's doorstep
Erkner lies on the south-eastern edge of Berlin, where the city gives way to lakes and pine forest. Around 12,000 people live here – close enough to the capital for work and errands, far enough away for peace and quiet in the evening.
Shopping and everyday needs
Everyday needs are well covered: discount stores such as Lidl and Netto, bakeries, pharmacies and restaurants are a few minutes' walk away. The centre around the station brings most of it together in one place.
Forest, water and free time
The Flakensee is just a five-minute walk away, along with the Dämeritzsee and extensive pine forest. In summer people go for an evening swim, and all year round for walks or bike rides along the shores.
Getting to Berlin
From Erkner station, the S-Bahn line S3 runs every ten minutes towards the city centre. Berlin Ostkreuz is around 35 minutes away – quicker than getting to the centre from some of the outer districts.
